PLANNING FOR BIRTHDAYS

Most people think that I spend a lot of money on parties, my motto has always been “Go big or go home! ”  But in reality, I spent less than $200 on my daughter’s Marie Antoinette 3rd birthday party.

Here’s some of my secrets.

PLAN AHEAD OF TIME – When your children are younger, they tend to like a theme for a longer period of time.  It’s usually built from a favorite color, an object that attracted them, or even a TV show they love watching ALMOST…EVERY…DAY, in this case ours were desserts!  The more you talk about it, the more encouraged they are to stick with that theme.  And if ever they change, like what happened to us, it’s usually within the color scheme of what you’ve started with.

BUY YOUR STUFF IN ADVANCE – If you plan ahead of time, then you can purchase your party decorations and themed utensils slowly through out the year and when their usually ON SALE.  For example, our next birthday theme is Rainbows & Unicorns.  Today, I saw these compact mirrors for giveaways ON SALE for $1.49!  How cool is that!  I just need to add ribbons I already own and thank you label from the dollar store – WHALA!  It looks like I bought it for more $$$

GO TO THE DOLLAR STORE – There are a lot of cute and useful stuff from the dollar store.  For example, the champagne glasses on above photo filled with cotton candy were from the dollar store (I saw a friend of mine in one of her Mimosa parties) .  You can paint it or bedazzle it just to make it your own.  The silver mirror (Similar to Beauty and the Beast), was also from the dollar store being ignored in the corner.

I love savings, I love event planning…I’ll post some more tricks later 🙂
